Hampton Jitney has released the following communiqué to
announce their implementation of a program to reduce to
their dependency on petroleum:

For Immediate Release

February 5, 2008. Southampton, NY. Hampton Jitney is as green on the inside as it is on the outside. 100% of the nearly 50 motorcoach fleet is now fueled by a bio-diesel blend. According to Brian Cooke, Vice President of Fleet Operations "this is an exciting move for us - we're doing our part to reduce America's oil dependency."

Bio-diesel fuel is biodegradable and non-toxic and produces less carbon dioxide emissions than regular diesel fuel.

Motorcoach travel is one of the greenest transportation choices a traveler can make. In fact, riding a coach is three times more efficient in reducing carbon output when compared to commuter rail. And of course, motorcoaches on average are six times more energy and fuel efficient than single occupancy automobiles. In fact, one fully occupied motorcoach is 475% more energy efficient than even the most popular hybrid car (source: gocoach.org).

Hampton Jitney is also co-sponsoring "Direct Action" - along with Emil Norsic & Son, Bridgehampton National Bank and Plum TV. "Direct Action" is a competition where students are invited to create storyboards for a :30 second segment based on the environmental challenges of today. The winners and their schools will receive scholarship funds and other prizes as well as the opportunity to have their entries produced and aired on Plum TV.
